Grandma still knows best
A lot of over-the-counter cleaning products are harsh, abrasive and even potentially dangerous to your family, pets and environment. Healthy alternatives are as near as your cupboard!

Baking soda cleans, deodorizes, removes stains, softens fabrics, and clears drains. Borax boosts the cleaning power of laundry soaps and detergents and, like table salt, is a scouring and disinfecting agent. Cornstarch deodorizes carpets. Lemon juice cuts through grease and stains on mirrors, dishes, and pots, while white vinegar is a mild disinfectant that also prevents mould.

While some of these homemade products may require more elbow grease to work, they are a lot friendlier to your body and to the air you breathe.

Below are a few great links to Grandma's tried and true favorite tips. She did always know best!

Homemade products

Why make your own cleaning products?

•  You know what is in the bottle!
•  Reduce your chemical exposure
•  Environmentally safe
•  Reduce pollution
•  Healthy for your family and pets
•  No preservatives or additives
•  Not tested on animals
•  You save $$$

Some ingredients in the recipes recommended are safer, but not necessarily non-toxic (such as Borax)! Never mix home chemicals together without a recipe. Also, please make sure to keep all homemade formulas well-labeled and out of the reach of children.
